Pair of 19th-Century Italian Maiolica Urns with Serpent Handles
A pair of Italian maiolica urns, 19th century, made in the Renaissance taste. Each baluster body is hand-painted in warm honey and ochre with a rolling landscape of towers, rooftops and trees, and crowned with extraordinary intertwined serpent-coil handles that rise above the rim. The trumpet pedestal feet are painted with floral sprigs and a striped border.
Sculptural from every angle — flanking a mantel or doorway, or holding tall branches on a console. The kind of object a whole room can be built around.
